Southern Channel Art Collective

About us

We are planning our next Art Trail for the weekend of August 28 & 29, 2010

It is the aim of the Southern Channel Art Collective to showcase artists who live in the Southern Channel area, from Snug to Gordon, who we feel are under-represented in the existing art groups in Southern Tasmania. We hope the Art Trail will bring visitors to the area increasing interest in the local art and craft scene, as well as what the region has to offer in produce.

41 local artists displayed their work in the 2008 Art Trail in 3 exhibitions. The main art exhibition was held in the Kettering Hall, and included 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional works; There was a photographic exhibition at Snug hall; and a quilt & textile arts exhibition at the Woodbridge Hall (Exhibitions).
In conjunction with the exhibitions, nine individual art studios, were opened to the public (Opened Studios).

The official opening (Kettering Hall) was officiated by the Mayor of Kingborough Council, Dr. Graham Bury, and was well attended. We estimate that about 1800 people visited the 3 exhibitions and opened studios during the weekend. Opened studios were extremely busy, reporting attendances of between 200 and 250 over the two days.

The Art Trail was made possible with the support of a grant from the Regional Arts fund (Commonwealth Government), as well as the support of the Kingborough Council, the Kingborough Lions Club, and many of the local businesses such as Mermaid Cafe, Oyster Cove Inn, Oyster Cover Chandlery, D'Meure wines, Peppermint Bay and Grandvewe Cheesery for financial and/or in kind sponsorship. Members of the Kettering and Oyster Cove Residents Group (KOCRES) and the Channel Regional Arts Group (CRAG) were also actively involved in helping with the set up and manning of the venues.

We look forward to a renewed success of the Art trail in 2010.

Meanwhile, if you have any queries or need further details, please contact either Jane Marris or Annick Ansselin.
